Total Defence Day

Dear parents,

Please be reminded that there will be an exciting programme lined up for your child this Friday (13/02/09). Your child will be taken through a journey to experience the need to protect our country. They will be fascinated and enthralled through sight, sound, taste, touch and smell during their journey of becoming a 'soldier' as the 3rd Singapore Battalion will be down to showcase their expertise. Do come down and join us if you are available. 

Fyi, the programme will start at about 10.15 am and end at 1.35 pm. Lessons will be as per normal for the first half of the day. The boys should come to school in PE attire.

English AMODES

Dear parents,

Please take note that the boys will be practising their Show and Tell tomorrow and if time permits, Friday as well. Please remind your child to bring along his picture(s) or/and toys for the practice. It'll be good for him to be prepared, confident, loud and clear. He will need to memorise his speech if he wants to do well. Also, making eye contact is important. 

One component from the rubrics that I wish to highlight is the Vocabulary. In order to do well in that catergory, he needs to introduce challenging words into his speech and explain the meaning of the word to the rest of the class. For example, the word 'responsible' is introduced, he will need to explain the meaning by giving examples of being responsible.

Please practice with your child the Show and Tell and the reading of the poem 'Farmer Brown' over the weekend. Please familiarise them with the material so that they will be fluent and confident.

I will set aside Monday and Tuesday for the Show and Tell and the reading of the poem respectively.

Volunteers for Literacy Block

Dear parents,

We strongly believe in developing a love for English and what better way of fulfilling it through reading. As it is of our prime importance, our group of dedicated teachers initiated the Literacy Block Programme in 2006. I urge you to be a part of the wonderful process of our children's growth.

In brief, the role of the volunteer is to read a storybook for 1 period each week at an interesting place (within school) . A book will be given to you and it is used for 2 consecutive weeks. I will block a period for you on Mondays at 7.35 - 8.05am.

If you are interested, please inform me via email or handphone and I will pass you a step-by-step guide (with a time schedule) on how to carry out the programme.

I look forward to hearing from you! :)
